A message from the Vicar, Canon Tom Mendel, SSC
Welcome to the virtual reality of St Mary’s, Eastbourne’s ancient Parish Church. After a millennium it continues to house a thriving Christian community within the Diocese of Chichester.
In this website you will discover something of the life of the parish: of who and where we are and what we do. At a time of much publicised turmoil within the Church, St Mary’s continues within the catholic tradition to welcome all who seek the ministry of Word and Sacrament.
As always, though, virtual reality is merely a taster. The Anglican tradition has always centred on worship. The old comment lex orandi, lex credendi very loosely translated means that if you want to know what we believe, look at the way we worship.
So I hope very much that whether as a visitor or a new resident, a Christian or an inquirer, this website will move you to experience the worshipping human and spiritual reality to which it points.
Tom Mendel.
